Meru National Park which is situated approximately 350 Kilometers from Nairobi. The park and Kora sister parks feature luxuriant jungle, coursing rivers, verdant swamp, khaki grasslands and gaunt termite cathedrals.

The Park is where conservationist George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness of Born Free in film Born Free. A 1966 Technicolor British drama starring Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers as Joy and George Adamson. A real-life couple who raised Elsa, an orphaned lion cub, to adulthood

Highlights of this safari include the home of Joy and George Adamson, Adamson’s falls, the grave of Elsa the lioness. Game Viewing, bird watching and stunning views of Mt Kenya, fishing among other activities.

7. Best Time to Visit

  • Dry Season: The best time to visit is during the dry seasons (from June to October and January to March) when wildlife is easier to spot due to the reduced vegetation and animals congregating around water sources.

Itinerary

You will be picked early in the morning at 7:00 am or earlier from your hotel and drive north to Meru National Park which is about 5 hours. You will enjoy beautiful scenery of green vegetation and excellent views of snow capped Mount Kenya in a distance. You will arrive at your camp in time for lunch. After lunch and relaxation,proceed for an evening game drive at 4:30 pm allowing you to see the wonderful creatures that populates the park. Animals to be seen include;large pride of lions,herds of buffalo,hippos,crocodiles, Grevy's zebras, elephants, Bohor reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff adders, cobras and more than 427 recorded species of birds. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight stay.

You will spend the whole day in the park. After early morning breakfast and depart with packed lunch for full day tour. The park has diverse natural scenery from wide open plains with many rivers to the woodlands on slopes of Nyambeni ranges to the north east of mount Kenya.
Animals to be seen includes; Grevy's zebras, elephants,lesser kudu, duiker, dik dik,giraffes, gazelles, reedbucks, hartebeests, pythons, puff adders, cobras, buffalos and more than 427 recorded species of birds including kingfishers,rollers,starlings.

Elsa’s Grave is at the southern end of Meru National Park, off the southern bank of the Ura River. The Park is one of the best places in Kenya to see rhinos in the wilderness.
You will enjoy your packed lunch in the park. Continue with the game drives and later return to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Depart for early morning game drive. Then return to your camp for breakfast and later depart for Nairobi with a stop over for lunch in Meru town. You will enjoy the beautiful scenery of large wheat and french beans plantations and good view of Mount Kenya. This tour can also be customized to proceed to Olpejeta conservancy at an extra cost. You will arrive late in the afternoon.
